Simon Jordan and Martin Keown clash live on talkSPORT as Everton outcome discussed
Simon Jordan and Martin Keown have clashed live on talkSPORT after Everton were beaten 3-0 by Manchester City on Sunday afternoon.
An Ilkay Gundogan brace and Erling Haaland header saw the Premier League champions to the brink of another title triumph.
Keown and Jordan have since clashed after the former Arsenal defender suggested the result would have had an impact on the Gunners ahead of their fixture with Brighton.
“The biggest problem for Arsenal was what happened earlier in the day, Manchester City winning eleven games on the bounce,” said Keown (talkSPORT White and Jordan, 15 May).
Jordan replied: “Would the Arsenal players have thought really in the back of their minds that a team that is languishing near the bottom of the league and couldn’t beat a rug most of the time are going to turnover Manchester City?”
Keown responded: “But it was a very good result, it was a 5-1 win against Brighton.”
Jordan reacted once again: “Fine but I am talking about the fact it’s been alleged that out of nowhere Man City beat Everton, oh give over!”
Inevitable
Jordan is right. The performance at Brighton gave Everton a glimmer of hope, but, realistically, we all know City would be far too strong. Pep Guardiola’s side weren’t even at their brilliant best and they still got the job done in a comfortable manner.
Up until Gundogan’s mesmeric opener, it was a fairly even contest. The Toffees even had the odd counterattack to shout about. However, after the German’s second-half free kick, it was about damage limitation. With Nottingham Forest and Leeds United on a similar goal difference, this relegation battle could come down to the finest of margins.

It was a smart move by Dyche to shut up shop when 3-0 down. The game could easily have gotten away from the Toffees and ensuring the scoreline remained sensible was vitally important. With Wolverhampton Wanderers and Bournemouth to come, there’s certainly an opportunity for the Toffees to pull themselves out of their current demise.
