Jim White and Simon Jordan clash live on air as Everton Financial Fair Play case discussed

Simon Jordan and Jim White have clashed live on air after discussing the Premier League Financial Fair Play charge against Everton.

A number of the Toffees’ rivals have requested the case to be “fast-tracked” in order for any potential punishment to be enacted this season.

Discussing the matter on talkSPORT on Thursday morning, White and Jordan vehemently disagreed over whether the punishment should be brought forward.

“We’ve got Leeds, Southampton, Leicester and Forest saying, quite rightly, why isn’t this tied up,” said White (talkSPORT, 18 May).

Jordan responded: “No, it doesn’t work that way. If you want these rules changed. Off you go you 20 football clubs and vote for it.

“If you want rules changed, it’s their gift. Richard Masters and his gang work for them. He exists because of them, his job is to fulfil the outcomes they want.

“Good luck with, because they won’t want it because they’ll be on the other side of the argument.”

White responded: “It’s simple if Everton get a points deduction next season would that be fair on the three clubs that go down in the next couple of weeks?”

Jordan: “Yes, because those are the rules.”

White added: “Unplug him.”

Rules are rules

It’s timely that these Premier League clubs are now suddenly ganging together once their top-flight status comes under threat. Leeds and Burnley did it last year and now they’ve been joined by Forest, Southampton and Leicester. Perhaps all these sides should focus on improving their league position instead of worrying about Everton’s financial situation.

It’s simply an act of desperation and the rules are, unfortunately, the rules. There’s no time limit or restriction on when a charge can be enacted and it would be extremely harsh and open a can of worms if something does change. With a takeover now looming at Goodison Park, the fan base will be hoping for some sort of clarity over the next couple of weeks.

Premier League survival is the primary focus, but ensuring Farhad Moshiri’s reign comes to an end is an absolute priority. Fresh ideas and investment are required. 777 Partners seem like the most likely party to take a controlling stake in the Merseyside club. Let’s hope they’ve been paying attention to the numerous mistakes that have been made during Moshiri’s time at Goodison Park.
