Paul Merson shares Everton relegation verdict, predicts result of Premier League clash v Wolves

Paul Merson has made his prediction for the Premier League clash with Wolves this weekend and shared if he feels Everton will be relegated.

The Toffees sit one point above the relegation zone with two games to go after their 3-0 loss to Manchester City last weekend, but could secure their status in the top flight next season if results go their way this weekend.

But Merson, speaking to Sportskeeda (19 May) believes they could already be safe as he doesn’t seen the team losing the final game of the season at Goodison Park next week, while backing them to secure another point against Wolves at Molineux.

“I think Everton might be safe,” he said.

“I don’t see how they won’t beat Bournemouth on the last day of the season with a raucous Goodison crowd behind them. Everton did alright for 30 minutes against Manchester City last weekend but then City dismantled them.

“I think Everton will get one very important point here. It’s a bit of a precarious situation on paper but I expect the Toffees to be safe at the end of the season. Wolves 1-1 Everton.”

If the Everton players walk onto the pitch on Saturday with the same mentality of Merson then there will be trouble on the pitch.

Wolves are already safe, but it is their final home game of the season and they will be looking to end their season on a high if possible.

Meanwhile there will be a lot of nervous energy in the Everton squad knowing that they absolutely need to earn themselves a positive result. But on the plus side, they know they can put an end to this race too.

A win on Saturday and then a Leeds and Leicester defeat against West Ham and Newcastle respectively would see the relegation battle over and done with, meaning the final game against Bournemouth would be a bit of a party.

But they have to do their job first and turn in a performance worthy of survival, and that means the minimum requirement is maximum effort.
