Robbie Savage stunned after Everton ‘stonewall’ VAR decision v Bournemouth

Robbie Savage has been left in disbelief after Everton weren’t awarded a penalty during their 1-0 win over Bournemouth.

Marcos Senesi appeared to make contact with Demarai Gray inside the box in the first half, however, the Toffees saw their appeal waved away.

Talking live on BT Sport Score, Savage was stunned by the decision and felt it was a “stonewall” penalty.

“Oh, I tell you what. It’s not been given though,” said Savage on BT Sports (5:11, 28 May)

“This is one for Peter. Senesi and Gray go into the box. Gray gets there first and stretches his leg out and Senesi kicks Gray in the Achilles. That for me should be a penalty. There’s enough contact to put Gray down. Stonewall penalty.

“That has to be a penalty. That’s what VAR is for.”

Wow

That decision could have been absolutely massive for Everton. How VAR decided to wave play on is beyond belief. It could have had a huge impact on Everton’s future.

However, Sean Dyche has got the job done. He was brought to the club to secure their Premier League status and that’s exactly what he’s done. It’s time for the board to finally make some smart decisions during the off-season. There’s no room for error.

With the takeover likely to move fairly fast now, it’s going to be vital that the board make the correct choices. They’ve messed around for far too long. The fans have been messed around for far too long. They deserve so much better.

With the new stadium now on the horizon, Everton cannot afford a repeat of the last two campaigns. They have to improve on and off the pitch. It’s time for a new era at Goodison Park.
