Tim Cahill issues ‘play for the badge’ Everton battle cry ahead of clash v Bournemouth
Tim Cahill has urged Everton to “play for the badge” ahead of their clash with Bournemouth on Sunday (28 May).
The Toffees host the Cherries at Goodison Park on the final day of the Premier League season.
The hosts go into the game knowing that a victory would secure their safety for another campaign, with the visitors already safe from the drop.

“This club means so much to so many people including myself,” Cahill wrote on Twitter. “We always fight to the end and the fans always play the most important part to get us over the line.
“Wishing Sean Dyche, his staff and all the players all the best today. Play for the badge Everton.”

Unthinkable relegation
Cahill gave his all for the Toffees for several years, and he will be one of many club legends who will be extremely disappointed at how events have unfolded at Goodison Park in recent times.
It should be unthinkable that Everton are in this situation, never mind for the second season running, but mismanagement at boardroom level and poor level recruitment in the transfer department has caused discontent among the fanbase and left the Toffees scrapping again to remain a top-flight club.
Cahill will be watching on in both disbelief and fear knowing that his former club could make a dramatic and unthinkable exit from the Premier League.
The Australian is, however, also one of many who knows how passionate the Everton fans are, and how their noise and support at Goodison Park could be the key to helping the players get the job done on the pitch. If they don’t, who knows long they could be in the doldrums.
