Amadou Onana could leave Everton to fund summer transfer business
Amadou Onana is a “prime” candidate for Newcastle United as Arsenal and Chelsea also track the Everton midfielder, according to the Daily Mail.
The Toffees secured their Premier League safety on Sunday with a 1-0 win over Bournemouth. The Guardian’s Fabrizio Romano has previously alluded to how the club with find it “very difficult” to hold on to the 21-year-old this summer (Caught Offside daily update on Wednesday morning, 19 April).
The Daily Mail now report on 28 May that the Belgium international could be sold to help facilitate Sean Dyche’s transfer business.

Change of strategy
It all depends on the price when it comes to Onana. The midfielder has been one of the standout performers during the 2022/23 season. Everton signed him for a fee believed to be in the region of £30million, however, it’s unlikely that the whole sum has been paid to date.
Therefore, any exit will need to command a large fee. Hopefully, with MSP Sports Capital set to invest, the Toffees won’t be in a position where they need to sell players to fund their business going forward.

With their league status now secure, it’s absolutely essential smart decisions are made over the course of the summer window.
The Merseysiders were in a very similar position last season and failed to learn from their mistakes during the summer. Smarter recruitment is needed. It’s been missing at Goodison Park for far too long. It’s time for some new faces and input at boardroom level.
Another campaign languishing near the foot of the table cannot be contemplated.
