Ian Wright blown away by ‘brilliant’ Abdoulaye Doucouré moment in 1-0 win v Bournemouth

Ian Wright was blown away by Abdoulaye Doucouré’s goal for Everton during the Toffees’ 1-0 Premier League win over Bournemouth.

The 30-year-old’s second-half strike saw Sean Dyche’s side secure their Premier League status for another season.

Talking on BBC’s Match of the Day, Wright felt the finish from the midfielder was “as good as it gets”.

“He’s just sort of detached himself from the defender,” said Wright (Match of the Day, 25m 40s, 28 May).

“He’s got himself into a nice space but what is brilliant about this – because of the significance – is the way he’s focused and concentrated on making clean contact. And that’s as good as it gets.

“Beautiful. From here, look at his concentration. That’s the quality that he’s got. It’s a brilliant strike.”

Rebuild starts now

The rebuild has to start in earnest for Everton. The last two seasons have been disastrous from start to finish. The board’s decisions have been key to the club’s demise and it’s time for change. The fanbase will be hoping for some sort of announcement over the coming days.

Dyche has done a good job with the players at his disposal. He’s made his starting XI more defensively rigid and has utilised Jordan Pickford to his advantage. The 29-year-old made a massive save towards the end of the clash against the Cherries which effectively kept Everton in the Premier League.

This season has barely been tolerated by the fans. A third campaign floundering near the bottom won’t be accepted in the slightest. MSP Sports Capital are in negotiations with Farhad Moshiri over investment and that’s a move which needs to be accelerated. The sooner Moshiri’s power is diminished, the better for everyone involved.
