Ian Wright predicts change at Everton as accusations fly around Goodison Park

Ian Wright believes the Everton board being absent at points during the 2022/23 season is their fault after accusations were made towards the fans.

The Guardian revealed on 14 January that the board had been told to stay away from Goodison Park after alleged threats were made. However, Merseyside police revealed there had been no reported threats or incidents.

Talking on Match of the Day after Everton’s 1-0 win over Bournemouth, Wright was scathing of the board and their actions.

“The board haven’t been there since January. That’s down to them after what they accused the fans of,” said Wright (Match of the Day, 27m 05s, 28 May).

“The management side of things need to change upstairs. They need a total reboot.”

Spot on

Wright is spot on here. The board have a lot to answer for. They attempted to throw the fanbase under the bus and detract from their own personal failures. Their decision-making has been shambolic at best and the Toffees’ back-to-back relegation battles are a result of their failures.

Change is desperately required at Goodison Park, and fast. The board cannot afford to make the same mistakes. MSP Sports Capital are close to investing in the club and that would be a start. Farhad Moshiri’s time on Merseyside needs to come to an end. For too long, he has ruled over a sinking ship.

Everton

Sean Dyche does deserve credit, but this is a position Everton should never have been in and until fresh faces emerge at boardroom level, the Toffees will face continue to face a similar fate.

The celebrations after the final whistle on Sunday were quickly washed out with discontent towards the board. It’s their making and it’s time they allowed someone more capable to steady the ship.
