Neville Southall blasts Everton board after Premier League survival secured

Neville Southall has called for a new board to take control of Everton and demanded that the club get recruitment right this summer.

The Toffees avoided relegation to the Championship thanks to a 1-0 win over Bournemouth on the final day of the season, meaning it will be 70 consecutive years in the top flight next season.

But the club legend wasn’t in a celebratory mood and took to his personal Twitter account (29 May) to detail the next steps the club needed to make to ensure this wasn’t a regular feeling.

“We need a new board,” he wrote.

“New investment. And we have no world class players. Recruiting is key.

“We need to act and think and be what our motto says. Not settling for anything less.

“Let’s please just be the Everton we all want. Aim for the top always.”

Bingo

Everton might be Everton in name, but we certainly haven’t been in actions over recent years and that has to change.

We’re not the same club who were battling for Champions League places under David Moyes, or even the same club were top of the table at one point under Carlo Ancelotti.

Right now this club is a shadow of itself and until there are new owners in place who really understand what it means to be Everton and have the club’s best interests at heart, we won’t get back there.

Nobody knows this club like Big Neville does, and it’s no surprise that he’s bang on the money with what we need during the summer to ensure that next season is different the last two.

Work has to start quickly to ensure the manager isn’t put in a position where the transfer window is jeopardised again, and if these things start to happen then we will slowly get our club back.
