Everton transfer news: Amadou Onana ‘loves’ club and could stay beyond summer transfer window – journalist

Everton midfielder Amadou Onana “loves the place” and could stay at Goodison Park beyond the start of next season, according to Dean Jones.

The 21-year-old has been a standout figure for the Toffees since signing from Lille for £33.5million last year, with Newcastle United making him a “prime” transfer candidate and Arsenal and Chelsea already tracking his services. [Daily Mail, 29 May]

iNews (29 May) have also reported that Everton could sanction a “big-name sale” in order to fund the signings that Sean Dyche wants this summer, with both Onana and Jordan Pickford named.

However, when speaking to GiveMeSport, former Eurosport journalist Jones suggested that the Belgium international hasn’t played his last game for Sean Dyche’s side.

“I don’t think that was his last dance for Everton, to be honest,” he said.

“I think that whenever you see Onana and his rapport with the fans, it seems like he loves the place. I think he was just desperate to stay up.”

Spine

If Everton wish to put their relegation worries behind them, they have to do their utmost to keep Onana this summer.

The midfielder has shown a lot of promise at Goodison Park this season as well as during his time at his previous club Lille last term.

At just 21, Onana has plenty of room for growth and could be the spine of this Toffees side for many years to come.

However, the financial predicament that the club find themselves in and the FFP difficulties Farhad Moshiri has been hit with could well force Everton to sell him this summer.

Dyche will want numerous signings across the field in order to progress up the Premier League table next campaign, but will he be offered the transfer purse to get the business done?

Hopefully, if MSP Sports Capital invest in the Merseyside club, the Toffees won’t be in a position where they are forced to sell players in order to fund their business moving forward.
