Beto to exit Udinese as 50% clause emerges, Everton want summer deal

Portuguese striker Beto will leave Udinese this summer as Everton eye a summer transfer, according to Italian newspaper, Gazzetta Dello Sport.

Sky Sports reported on Tuesday 30 May that the Toffees are looking to reignite their interest in the 25-year-old, who scored 10 goals during the 2022/23 season.

Writing in their print edition (pg 75, 1 June), Gazzetta Dello Sport claim that it is now “unlikely” for Beto to remain in North East Italy.

He is contracted to the Serie A side until the summer of 2026, however, there is a clause in his contract which will allow him to exit for £30million.

It’s believed Udinese are not going to budge from that asking price, with Beto’s former side, Portimonense, in line for a 50 per cent sell-on clause if he departs.

Gathering pace

This seems like a move which is gathering pace – and it’s needed. For too long Everton have been blunt in attack. Neal Maupay has been one of the flops of the 2022/23 season and Dominic Calvert-Lewin lasts about a game and a half before missing another six through injury. His body is clearly not up to the stresses of first-team Premier League football.

We need change at the top of the pitch. The lack of potency was nearly fatal. Had Abdoulaye Doucouré not fired home an exquisite volley against Bournemouth, Everton would be playing in the Championship next season. Sean Dyche has done as much as he possibly can with the tools at his disposal.

Everton

But, if Everton want to progress next season, they need a consistent goal threat. Beto is a good age and has scored goals consistently for Udinese. Obviously, the Premier League will be a step up, but surely signing a player from the continent is a smart option rather than picking up an ageing and failing forward from England.
