Everton could sign Rodrigo Becao as Goodison Park exit confirmed

Everton have confirmed the departure of Conor Coady – and this news could open the door for a long-term transfer target to come through the door at Goodison Park.

Evertonians will be disappointed to hear of the 30-year-old’s departure. The Wolves loanee racked up 24 appearances for Sean Dyche’s side during the 2022/23 season and was impressive alongside James Tarkowski in the early part of the campaign.

However, it’s clear that Dyche is now eager to look elsewhere when it comes to restructuring his defence. We all know the Toffees don’t score bundles of goals, so ensuring they are watertight at the back is an absolute must.

Rodrigo Becao is a name that hasn’t gone away. The Udinese defender has been on the Toffees’ radar. The Daily Mail reported on 29 January, that Dyche was targeting the 27-year-old Brazilian before the winter window slammed shut.

Mondo Udinese revealed on 14 March that Everton and Spurs were still showing an interest in Becao, with the Brazilian valued at £17.6million.

A summer assault for the defender could well be on the cards – particularly with Coady now returning to Molineux. It will come as a surprise, but Coady heading back to the Black Country could be a blessing in disguise.

He’s ageing and was out of the side towards the back end of the 2022/23 season. The board have to move on. The days of giving players one last payday should be a thing of the past.

Coady’s departure could pave the way for Becao to finally seal his move to Goodison Park. He would be a quality addition – who would certainly provide slightly more longevity.
