Everton want Jack Clarke, Sunderland summer exit on cards

Everton are interested in signing Sunderland winger Jack Clarke who is now expected to leave the Stadium of Light, according to Football League World.

The 22-year-old has enjoyed an excellent campaign with the North East club and has been brandished “wonderful” by Mackems boss Tony Mowbray (Leeds Live, 22 September).

Football League World report on Thursday 1 June that Clarke is now “likely” to depart the Championship side after their playoff defeat to Luton Town.

Wolves, Burnley, Crystal Palace and Rangers are all monitoring the situation at present. Clarke is contracted to Sunderland until the summer of 2026.

Everton have had some luck dealing with the Black Cats in the past, with Jordan Pickford proving himself to be an excellent servant to the club.

Clarke could well follow suit. When looking at the list of clubs linked, the Toffees are by far the biggest. He looks destined to depart and the sooner Everton can sort their boardroom issues out, the better chance they have of landing the 22-year-old.

Signing young players who could develop is a route the board have to go down. For too long, the Toffees have recruited ageing players who are past their best. The likes of Dele Alli and James Rodríguez spring to mind. Clarke would be signed with an eye to the future.

He’s excelled at Sunderland and now looks Premier League-ready. Furthermore, the Englishman wouldn’t set the Toffees back too much. This is one the board have to be looking to advance further.
