Jean-Philippe Mateta could leave Crystal Palace on loan, Everton want to sign him

Everton want to sign Crystal Palace striker Jean-Philippe Mateta and all parties are open to a loan deal, according to a report by BILD.

The 25-year-old has struggled to hold down a regular starting place at Selhurst Park and is keen to leave the club, with a return to the Bundesliga on the cards.

But according to BILD’s information (2 June), Everton have already registered their interest in the striker and the Eagles are “ready for a loan deal” to get him off their books this summer.

There is also said to be interest from clubs in Turkey, while no clubs in Germany have yet made their interest in a deal known.

Mateta’s scoring record has been good before he arrived in England, and it could be a case of needing a regular run in the team to be able to adapt properly and start firing here.

He really caught the eye during a two-and-a-half-year stint in Germany with Mainz where he managed 27 goals in 71 appearances before joining Palace in a deal worth around £15m.

But he has managed just ten goals in 67 games in south London and just two in the 2022/23 season. With Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Neal Maupay’s future at Goodison Park up in the air, Mateta could be just what the doctor ordered.

Sean Dyche is known to be a fan of physical centre-forwards and Mateta has a very similar skillset to Calvert-Lewin, albeit that we haven’t seen him perform to as high a level.

A loan deal could work with the way the finances are at Everton right now, and it could end up being a shrewd bit of business if he can prove himself in the top flight.
