Everton Tammy Abraham move on rocks as Sky Sports footage emerges

Everton have been linked with a move for Roma striker Tammy Abraham – however, the latest news to emerge from Italy means the deal could be on the rocks.

The Telegraph reported on 1 June that Roma will listen to offers for the 25-year-old, who has scored 36 goals during two seasons in Italy.

Gazzetta Dello Sport also reported in its print edition (pg 12, 4 June), that Everton were plotting a move for the former Chelsea and Aston Villa frontman.

However, Sky Sports footage has since emerged on Monday 5 June revealing that Abraham is expected to be sidelined for nearly six months with an ACL injury.

This will almost certainly see Everton’s move for the England international fall through. There’s simply no point in signing a player who won’t be able to feature for the first half of the season.

Furthermore, when he does return, it will take him a whilst to get back up to speed. It’s a crying shame for the striker. He’s rebuilt his career with Roma and was primed to make a move back to the Premier League during the 2023 summer window.

He’s still young and there’s a chance he could return to England at some point, but any imminent deal is now extremely unlikely. Sean Dyche will have to look elsewhere in his striker hunt.

So Foot reported on Sunday 4 June that Jean-Philippe Mateta is on the Toffees’ radar. The 25-year-old Crystal Palace striker will leave Selhurst Park this summer after a lack of first-team football.
