Everton want Jean-Philippe Mateta as loan agreement ‘option’ emerges

Everton target Jean-Philippe Mateta will be loaned out from Crystal Palace at the end of the 2022/23 season, according to So Foot.

However, the Toffees now face competition from Torino, Valencia and PSV Eindhoven for the 25-year-old Frenchman.

So Foot reported on Sunday 4 June that Palace have received European enquiries for Mateta. It’s believed any loan agreement will include a recall “option”.

It’s understood the 25-year-old is eager to complete a move away from Selhurst and that he’s open to all options. Furthermore, the striker won’t be long making his decision, which could lead to a deal being concluded relatively soon.

Back on track

Mateta needs to get his career back on track. 29 appearances last season resulted in just two goals for the Eagles. He’s at an age where he needs to be playing regularly. He’s by no means past his best. A striker has to be the priority for Everton during the off-season.

Goals win games. A forward has to be at the top of Sean Dyche’s shopping list. Neal Maupay is not up to standard – and the same can be said for Ellis Simms. Dominic Calvert-Lewin has the potential but his injury issues are now getting beyond stupid.

Everton

A dependable forward, who can stay fit throughout the season is required. Mateta hasn’t been plagued by injuries and probably comes in the Calvert-Lewin mould. A player who can run in behind, but also maintain a physical presence and hold the ball up.

Getting a loan move for the Frenchman over the line early on in the window would be a good start for the board and Dyche.
