Spanish clubs to rival Everton in bid for Manchester United loanee Wout Weghorst – Fabrizio Romano
Spanish clubs are set to rival Everton in a transfer move for Manchester United loanee striker Wout Weghorst this summer, according to Fabrizio Romano.
The Toffees have been linked with a move for the 21-time capped Dutch international forward, who spent the second half of the season on loan at Old Trafford in the 2022/23 season and managed just two goals.
But according to reliable journalist Romano, Everton are set to face competition from clubs on the continent for his signature should they push ahead with their interest.

“Manchester United plans to let players leave,” he wrote on his personal Twitter account (7 June).
“Maguire expected to leave, both sides agree;
“Weghorst won’t stay – Everton and Spanish clubs keen;
“Henderson to Forest advanced;
“Van de Beek wants to play;
“Bailly and Telles out.”

Weghorst proved during his time at Old Trafford that a move to the Premier League isn’t the right thing for him because he isn’t capable of playing at this level.
In a team that consisted of the likes of Marcus Rashford, Bruno Fernandes, Anthony Martial and Christian Eriksen creating he managed just two goals in over 20 games.

But it should be remembered that it was Sean Dyche who brought Weghorst to England to begin with while he was at Burnley, and he started well there before struggling and Dyche was sacked.
He clearly knows the player’s strengths and with Everton desperate to add attacking options to the squad with Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s injury problems showing no signs of disappearing and Neal Maupay a complete disaster.
Everton will need to move quickly to get it done because they’re not the only club interested, but it seems they’re ready to try and get a deal over the line.
