Yerry Mina received offers from Premier League after Everton exit, set to join Besiktas

Yerry Mina is set to sign a deal with Besiktas after turning down offers from Premier League clubs and Spain after leaving Everton, according to Fanatik (7 June).

The Colombian defender will leave the Toffees after five years at the end of his contract, having played a huge part in keeping the club in the Premier League.

And his performances attracted interest from clubs in La Liga and the Premier League, but the 28-year-old has turned down those offers and is now close to signing a deal with Turkish Super Lig side Besiktas.

“Besiktas, who do not want to lose Mina, who received offers from many places, especially the Premier League and La Liga, are working hard to complete the transfer as soon as possible,” they wrote.

“Negotiating with the 28-year-old Colombian defender through his manager, the administration has made great strides.”

Shame

It’s no surprise that clubs have shown an interest in signing Mina, because on his day he is one of the better players in that position for clubs at this level.

Physically he is huge, he is fantastic in the air, good on the ball and always up for a battle as well as being a threat in both boxes from set-pieces.

But the problem has always been his fitness problems and the fact that he simply can’t be entirely relied upon to be part of the squad on a regular basis over the course of a season.

Other Premier League clubs may be able to afford the luxury of having a player like Mina available sometimes, but realistically Everton can’t do that and we need him to move on.

He’ll be loved and missed, but thankfully we won’t have to come up against him if he’s on his way to Turkey.
