Luton Town want to sign Asmir Begovic as Everton exit confirmed, talks held
Asmir Begovic has emerged as a target for Premier League rivals Luton Town after Everton confirmed he will leave at the end of his contract.
The Bosnian goalkeeper was offered fresh terms at Goodison Park but rejected them and opted to leave the club, bringing an end to his two years on Merseyside.
And according to a report by The Telegraph’s Mike McGrath (9 June), newly-promoted Luton Town are now interested in signing him for their squad next season either as number one goalkeeper or as a backup option.

“Luton Town have held talks over Asmir Begovic arriving as a free transfer and have also looked at Bournemouth’s Mark Travers as they step up their plans for Premier League football next season,” they wrote.
They are also interested in Bournemouth ‘keeper Mark Travers, which could see Begovic signed as a number two.
Shame
Begovic has been a loyal servant over the last two years and has done very well whenever he was asked to step up in place of Jordan Pickford.
It’s just a shame for him that he has the England number one in front of him while he is at the peak of his powers, and Begovic is entering the twilight of his career.

With that said it is no surprise to see him leaving the club in search of more regular football while he’s still capable, and Luton would provide him the opportunity to do that at the highest level still.
If he were to sign there as the number two however it would be a real blow, because the club had a solid goalkeeper unit here with Begovic, Pickford and Andy Lonegran – who has been offered a new deal to stay on.
It’s the end of a fun journey and he’ll be fondly remembered at Everton, but realistically it’s not too big a blow to the squad because he is only ever in if Pickford is out and that means we’re weaker regardless.
