Everton ‘pushing’ to sign Moussa Dembele on free transfer ahead of Galatasaray and Crystal Palace

Everton are “pushing” to sign former Lyon striker Moussa Dembele on a free transfer ahead of Galatasaray and Crystal Palace, according to Ignazio Genuardi.

The Toffees are desperate to add to their attacking options for the 2023/24 season with Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s injury problems not solved, Neal Maupay and Ellis Simms potentially leaving and Demarai Gray considering his future.

Dembele will leave Lyon at the end of his contract later this month and will be available on a free transfer, and according to journalist Genuardi it’s Everton who are pushing most for his signature despite Galatasaray making moves over the last few months.

“At the end of his contract with OL [Lyon], will M. Dembélé continue his career in PL?” he wrote on his personal Twitter account (12 June).

“While Galatasaray has been positioned for several months in Turkey, Everton is currently pushing to sign the ex-Fulham player, who is also targeted by Crystal Palace, in particular.”

Solid

Dembele was exceptional when he was playing for Celtic years ago, and it was seen as a when and not an if he would be able to step up to the next level.

He went to Lyon and did pretty well and also won La Liga while on loan at Atletico Madrid, but his career never really kicked on in the way many expected it to.

But he’s still only 26-years-old and there is still a lot of untapped potential there, and his goal record is definitely not something to be scoffed at.

When playing regularly he has proven that he knows where the back of the net is and his injury record is positive too, while his playing style and profile certainly suits what Sean Dyche usually wants in a striker.

The boss has got the club making their moves in the transfer window now to get a headstart on the new season, because there can be no scenario in which Everton are short in attack once again for the new campaign.
