Sunderland eye Ellis Simms in Everton transfer that ‘ticks all the boxes’
Sunderland are monitoring Ellis Simms’ situation at Everton with the Toffees yet to make a decision on the 22-year-old forward, according to The Northern Echo.
It’s believed a striker is a priority for Sean Dyche during the summer window, which could leave a decision to be made on Simms (The Northern Echo, 12 June).
It’s unlikely Simms will be a regular starter next season and that now could well be the time for the Toffees to “cash in”.

Sunderland are also closing in on a move for Benfica’s Luis Semedo, but two strikers are wanted by Tony Mowbray and it’s believed a loan move for Simms “ticks a lot of boxes”.
Let him go
Surely the Toffees allow Simms to head out on loan. It seems rather unfair to keep hold of the striker when he could be out playing regular first-team football.
Sunderland will be the most likely location. He was a hit there during the first half of last season and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him be successful if he does return.

It feels as if Simms’ departure will depend heavily on a new forward arriving. A prolific striker will be absolutely key next season. For too long the Toffees have been laboured with forwards who are not up to scratch. Neal Maupay has been a woeful addition and Dominic Calvert-Lewin struggles to stay fit for longer than two matches.
Regarding Calvert-Lewin – if a big bid arrives – the board should certainly consider his future. He’s an excellent forward on his day. However, at present, his injury woes are making him a costly player for Everton to have on their books.
