Everton fans now set to ‘hound’ Bill Kenwright out of club after ‘insulting their intelligence’ – Sky Sports pundit
We’re delighted to welcome former Everton striker Kevin Campbell as our exclusive columnist. Each week the former Toffees captain will be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Goodison Park…
The lack of accountability from Bill Kenwright is what “rubbed fans up the wrong way” at Everton as they look like they will now “hound him out” of the club, says Kevin Campbell.
The Toffees chairman is “expected” to leave within 48 hours [Guardian, 12 June] after the Monday development that saw Denise Barrett-Baxendale, Grant Ingles and Graeme Sharp all resign from the board at Goodison Park, following months of supporter protests.
Campbell doesn’t know whether the chairman’s decisions are the root the struggles at the club over recent years but does know his failure to acknowledge the situation has infuriated the fanbase by “insulting their intelligence”.

The Sky Sports pundit exclusively told Goodison News: “I’ll be honest, I don’t know. I don’t know whether he’s to blame or not.
“But there has to be some accountability by Bill, and it looks like there is none.
“That’s what’s rubbed the fans up the wrong way, I truly believe that.
“Because Bill Kenwright comes out with statements about there being ‘good times’ and the fans think, ‘good times where?’
“That’s insulting their intelligence, and that’s why it [animosity] is really strong at him.
“Bill Kenwright’s a massive Evertonian, he’s been great for the football club etc. but now Everton are in this situation.
“Accountability starts falling on Bill Kenwright, he’s been there a long time and it’s getting worse.
“So hold your hands up and say ‘it is what it is, it’s not great’ or whatever.
“Maybe he loves the club so much he doesn’t want to move but the way it looks the fans are going to hound him out.”

It’s been bad enough for fans watching Everton almost get relegated twice in succession, with endless reported financial turmoil off the pitch.
But Kenwright has come across as if he’s in denial about the situation and doesn’t care what the supporters think when he’s made public statements.
The apparently imminent exit could be the end of an increasingly sad chapter in the club’s history with the relationship long-broken.
Nobody can ultimately outlast a club’s supporters, and this looks set to be just the latest example.
