Simon Jordan unleashes on Farhad Moshiri live on talkSPORT, delivers ‘preposterous’ board verdict

Simon Jordan believes it is a “preposterous” observation that Farhad Moshiri has been under the control of the Everton board throughout the club’s decline.

The Toffees released a statement on Monday (12 June) that three top-level board members, including Denise Barrett-Baxendale, would be leaving their posts, while Bill Kenwright is set for discussions with the Iranian-born businessman in the next 48 hours.

Speaking live on talkSPORT show White and Jordan, the former Crystal Palace owner blamed Moshiri for the club’s “shortcomings” over the past few years, which have led to consecutive battles against Premier League relegation.

“Now, it is a fair enough argument to say that Moshiri appointed this board to continue in his image or under his direction, but he is culpable for their shortcomings.

“I emphatically, and nothing is going to change my mind, no matter how many rabid Everton fans want to scream at me, that Moshiri is the guy that pushes the button, that pulls the trigger, that makes the decisions, that has allowed people to buy players for £50million, that has gone after people such as Ancelotti when they are the wrong fit.

“That has been Moshiri, and there is nothing anyone can say to me that will change me from that point of view.

“You cannot allow a football club of this magnitude to be flailing in the wind as it has been. They have got away from relegation twice now, but there won’t be a third time.”

Steps being taken

Everton fans have been calling for change in the boardroom for months now, and it seems like their wishes are finally going to be answered.

Moshiri, along with the Toffees board, have been culpable of the club’s demise over the last few years, getting countless managerial decisions wrong and spending their money in the transfer market horrendously.

Although steps have been taken to deliver change at boardroom level through this most recent announcement, with Kenwright also heading towards a Goodison Park exit, Moshiri remains at the heart of the club.

The 68-year-old can’t escape the blame that easily, and the protests will continue into next season if he remains as owner of the club.

Jordan is correct in stating that Everton won’t be lucky enough to escape relegation a third time if Moshiri is still at the heart of the Merseyside club, and he doesn’t instigate sweeping change over the coming months.

Goodison Park has been a hive of activity so far this summer, but fans will hope there is still more to come.
