Denise Barrett-Baxendale destroyed by Martin Samuel as yet more Everton legal action emerges

The Times’ Martin Samuel has slammed outgoing Everton chief Denise Barrett-Baxendale as yet more legal action emerges at Goodison Park.

According to The Guardian on Monday 12 June, Carlo Ancelotti is suing his former employers for “general commercial contracts and arrangements”.

However, Martin has highlighted that Everton’s relegated rivals could well be set to launch a legal tirade and has slammed Barrett-Baxendale after it was announced she’d be departing the club.

“The main Premier League representative throughout the government’s review into football was Denise Barrett-Baxendale,” wrote Samuel (The Times, 13 June).

“The same Barrett-Baxendale that resigned as Everton chief executive this week, on the day it was announced that general commercial contracts and arrangements”.

“Barrett-Baxendale has been unable to attend Goodison Park, along with other directors, since mid-January because of the animosity felt by fans towards the board.

“A Premier League investigation into the club’s finances is continuing, with fears a breach of profit and sustainability rules has taken place.

“If this is proven, there could yet be legal action from relegated rivals, after Everton survived for another season on the final day — all on Barrett-Baxendale’s watch. What a brains trust Tracey Crouch’s panel of experts is turning out to be.”

Good riddance

Change is now finally afoot at Goodison Park. New faces in the boardroom have been needed for a very long time. The failed communication and puzzling footballing decisions mean Barrett-Baxendale’s tenure has been a resounding failure.

Form absent police reports surround threats to the board and a mysterious headlock – that nobody saw happen. The fans have been thrown under the boss. The fact that Everton could well be fighting three legal battles at one time displays everything it needs to.

The latest claim for Ancelotti has made the Everton chiefs look even more laughable. It appears the Real Madrid boss is purely asking for parts of his contract to be fulfilled. This is extremely basic stuff.

When you reach a legal agreement with somebody, you have to carry out all the aspects you promised them. Whether it’s poor admin or organisation – the time is right for some smarter brains to emerge in the long corridors at Goodison Park.
