Phil McNulty destroys ‘shambolic’ Everton as Bill Kenwright deadline emerges

BBC Sport’s chief football writer Phil McNulty has slammed Everton after the club missed their own deadline for a decision to be made on Bill Kenwright’s future.

On Monday 12 June, Denise Barrett-Baxendale, Grant Ingles and Graeme Sharp all left their roles at the club, with interim appointments and Kenwright’s future to be decided in the following 48 hours.

BBC Sport report on 15 June that no decision has been made and McNulty has taken to Twitter to slam the dysfunctioning Toffees.

“The fact that Everton set a self-imposed deadline to clarify the future of chairman Bill Kenwright plus interim boardroom appointments and cannot even meet it shows the complete dysfunction at the heart of the club and why there must be change at the top. Shambolic,” he wrote (via Twitter, 15 June).

Systemic problems

There are systemic problems at Everton and that runs from the very top down. Farhad Moshiri is the one who should be blamed.

His cavalier approach to running a football club has led to a complete lack of professionalism within Goodison Park – the board can’t even meet the deadlines that they’ve set for themselves. It’s not a good look.

Hopefully, the MSP Sports Capital investment is the start of a larger period of change for the Toffees. Fresh faces are desperately required at the top of the club.

For too long the deserving fanbase has been sold desperately short. Two relegation-threatened campaigns on the spin don’t cut it.

Anything less than a midtable finish will be rightfully frowned upon – and if Everton are dragged into another relegation battle, the fanbase will reach boiling point; although, that might have already happened.

Time for Moshsiri to relinquish the keys to the castle and finally allow for Evertonians to be positive once again.
