Finance author blasts ‘predatory’ Everton partner as Chelsea news emerges
Finance author Martin Caladine has blasted Everton partner Stake amid the group’s negotiations with fellow Premier League club Chelsea.
According to Daily Telegraph journalist Matt Law (15 June), the West London outfit are close to agreeing a deal with the crypto casino.
The agreement would only initially only be for one year, with gambling sponsors banned at the end of the 2025/16 season.

“Chelsea are in final negotiations with Stake over becoming new front of shirt sponsors on an initial one-year deal,” Law posted on Twitter. “Gambling sponsors banned at the end of the 2025/26 season.”
Calladine then posted on Twitter: “Chelsea signing up with Stake, who, as Everton’s crypto casino sponsor, regularly enticed problem gamblers with insanely predatory offers, like a $10 (£8) credit for people who’d wagered $5,000 in the preceding *seven days.* Remember to gamble responsibly, folks!”

Poor decision
It really is a poor decision from Chelsea if they close a sponsorship deal with Stake, with the company rightly coming under fire for their offers for Everton supporters and indeed many of their other customers across the world.
There are, of course, different viewpoints on the world of gambling, but at the end of the day if a company is targeting problem gamblers, then that is a step too far.
Such companies are already raking in plenty of money without having to go after people who cannot afford to gamble, or people who cannot control their gambling addiction.
Fortunately the UK Government have stepped up in their pursuit of these sponsorship agreements, with an agreement reached to bring them to an end in the near future, which will obviously have a major impact on the Toffees.
Sadly though, it looks like Chelsea and perhaps a few other Premier League clubs will now look to gain as much money as possible from gambling companies before the ban comes into place.
