Everton in ‘open race’ to sign Moussa Dembele as Italian interest emerges – Fabrizio Romano

Everton are in an “open race” to sign Lyon striker Moussa Dembele this summer and will face competition from both Galatasaray and multiple Italian clubs, according to Fabrizio Romano.

Sean Dyche is desperately short of attacking options at Goodison Park, with Dominic Calvert-Lewin injury-prone over the last two seasons, Neal Maupay expected to leave the club this summer and Ellis Simms still a young and raw option to call upon.

Dembele, who will leave Lyon at the end of his contract later this month, will be available on a free transfer should the Toffees step up their interest.

Speaking to GiveMeSport, transfer insider and Guardian journalist Romano said: “Yeah, they appreciate Dembele, but also Galatasaray and some Italian clubs.

“It’s a very open race. I think he will take some time before deciding on this deal for Dembele.

“It’s true, they appreciate the player. They already wanted him last summer, so it’s an option, yes.”

Everton

Great option

Everton have been crying out for a proven goalscorer over the past few seasons, and Dembele looks like a great option to alleviate this weakness.

Considering the vast number of goals he has scored all across Europe and the fact that it would be on a free transfer, this move ticks a lot of boxes.

At the age of 26, the Frenchman still has plenty of years ahead of him and will surely want to make the next step in his career a move to the Premier League. He previously helped Celtic to win back-to-back trebles while under Brendan Rodgers, so he clearly possesses a winning mentality and has been a part of a hugely successful team.

If Everton can pull off this transfer, it could be one of the bargains of the window.

There isn’t anything to dislike about this transfer, and Dyche should go all guns blazing to get it over the line.
