Everton should go all guns blazing in pursuit of Jack Harrison after Demarai Gray exit news

After years of overspending and poor transfer calls, the option to sign Leeds United winger Jack Harrison should appeal to Everton greatly.

Harrison, 26, is expected to leave Elland Road this summer after the club were relegated from the Premier League last season, with talkSPORT reporting (29 May) that he has a “relegation release clause” in his contract that could result in a “cut price” exit.

CBS journalist Ben Jacobs has now tipped the Toffees to take an interest in the winger, who was valued as high as £30million by Leeds in the January transfer window.

Speaking on Leeds United Ultras YouTube channel, he said: “There might not be as many queuing up for Harrison as you might think.

“I would keep an eye on Everton and West Ham United.”

If a cut-price deal for Harrison is on the cards, it’s something that Farhad Moshiri should try to explore with great urgency.

Although Leeds were extremely disappointing last season, the Englishman was one player who came out of the campaign with his reputation intact. A season which included five goals and seven assists in the Premier League is no mean feat, and a record that many an Evertonian wish upon a number of their stars.

With Demarai Gray reportedly growing unhappy about his starting opportunities under Sean Dyche and open to leaving the club this season [Daily Mail, 12 June] and Alex Iwobi opening up on his ambitions to play in the Champions League, Everton need further options on the wing, and fast.

Harrison has the Premier League experience, is available on a cheap deal and will be willing to leave Leeds United this summer, so there isn’t a lot to dislike about this potential transfer.

The ball is now in Moshiri’s court to green-light this transfer and get Everton’s summer spending underway.
