Manchester United prepare £45m bid for Everton star Jordan Pickford as £200,000-a-week development shared

Manchester United are preparing a £45million bid for Everton and England goalkeeper Jordan Pickford, according to the Daily Star.

The newspaper noted that the interest in the 29-year-old comes as the Red Devils continue their contract stalemate with current number one David de Gea.

The Spaniard’s deal at Old Trafford expires later this month, with the goalkeeper so far refusing to extend his stay, added the Daily Star.

“Manchester United are preparing a £45million bid for Jordan Pickford,” according to the Daily Star.

“The England keeper is top of Erik ten Hag’s list of potential replacements for David de Gea as the Spaniard’s contract stalemate continues.

“Pickford, on £100,000 a week, would double that with his basic salary at United.”

Wanted man

Manchester United are clearly trying to resolve the contract situation with De Gea as soon as possible, but if the stalemate continues for much longer, it may indeed be easier just to bring in Everton ace Pickford.

Although a heavy fee would be involved to bring him to Old Trafford, Pickford would be on a lower wage than De Gea.

The Spaniard has been one of the world’s best goalkeepers for quite some time now, but there are many Manchester United fans who would be happy to see him call time on his Old Trafford spell, with one too many mistakes creeping into his game lately.

Pickford meanwhile would be foolish to turn down a move to Manchester given the situations that the Red Devils and the Toffees find themselves in, with the former now constantly challenging for many trophies and the latter struggling towards the bottom end of the table.
