BBC Sport chief slams Everton as ‘utter dysfunction’ emerges at Goodison Park

BBC Sport chief football writer Phil McNulty has slammed Everton as Bill Kenwright remains the only man currently occupying the boardroom.

On Monday 12 June, Denise Barrett-Baxendale, Grant Ingles and Graeme Sharp all left their roles at the club, with interim appointments and Kenwright’s future to be decided in the following 48 hours.

However, nearly a week on, there has been no sign of an announcement and McNulty has taken to Twitter to vent his disgust at the current ongoings at Goodison Park.

“Now a week since Everton announced: “A statement will be made about interim appointments and the future of the Chairman in the next 48 hours.” Not a word. No sign of a word,” wrote McNulty (Twitter, 19 June).

“Bill Kenwright is still chairman on a board consisting of one person – Bill Kenwright. Utter dysfunction.”

Laughable

It’s a laughable situation. We are just a matter of weeks from pre-season starting. Everyone could see the changes that needed to occur. The whole board had to move on along with Farhad Moshiri. However, as long as Moshiri’s cavalier mentality remains at Goodison Park, the same problems will continue to emerge.

Smarter footballing brains are needed in the next couple of weeks. For too long, it feels as if it had been the blind leading the blind. Money has been spent, but the results on the pitch make for grim reading.

Moshiri’s fairly significant contribution could have resulted in far greater success on the pitch.

Kevin Thelwell’s arrival hasn’t made too much of an impact to date. The former Wolves man was brought in to change the culture at Goodison Park, however, that hasn’t happened.

Everton need smarter additions to be made in the boardroom and on the pitch. Looking to sign players who can be valuable assets in the long term could well be an avenue to go down.
