Everton dealt blow in Denzel Dumfries pursuit as move ‘does not tease’ Inter Milan ace
Everton have been dealt a blow in their pursuit of Denzel Dumfries as the idea of a switch to the Merseyside club “does not tease” the Inter Milan ace, according to Calciomercato.
The publication notes that the Netherlands international is a “distant idea” for the Toffees in the summer transfer window.
Dumfries made 51 appearances for the Serie A club in all competitions this season, with the Inter star currently on international duty with the Netherlands.
“Today the most flourishing market for him remains that of the Premier League with the Chelsea polls in the background in an axis that could be incandescent and the distant idea of Everton at the moment, which however does not play the cups and does not tease the Dutch,” according to Calciomercato.
“It will be intense days with a great certainty. Dumfries loves Inter and will not leave unless there are much more advantageous offers than the current one, both for him and for the club.”
Dumfries needs higher level
Dumfries has been a standout performer for Inter this season, with the versatile player also shining for his country in recent times.
The 27-year-old helped Inter make it all the way to this season’s Champions League final, with the Italian giants falling at the final hurdle against English club Manchester City.
The reported interest in Dumfries is understandable, with the 27-year-old able to operate at both right-back and right-midfield, with the Netherlands ace comfortable at both ends of the pitch.
Everton could certainly do with such a talented player, but given his exploits this season, it seems that he needs to be playing at a club at a higher level than what the Toffees are currently operating at.
The Merseyside outfit have been involved in two successive Premier League relegation battles, with that form hardly able to convince a Champions League finalist with a move to Goodison Park.
A switch to a Champions League club would be more likely, with the very real possibility that Dumfries will remain an Inter player for next season.
