Everton transfer news as Alan Myers shares Ellis Simms bid update

Despite other reports, no bid has been accepted for Everton striker Ellis Simms, according to Alan Myers on Twitter.

The broadcaster and lifelong Evertonian provided the update on Tuesday morning, with Sunderland and Ipswich Town said to be keeping tabs on the player. Last week, the Northern Echo reported on the Mackems’ interest.

The 22-year-old striker started 2022/23 on loan at the Stadium of Light before he was recalled by Everton in January but he only featured sparingly in the tense conclusion to the season, playing just 10 minutes of the final seven games.

Myers was straight to the point with a brief but unequivocal update to set the record straight.

“My understanding is there has been no bid accepted from any club for Ellis Simms.”

Needs to play

Simms will have great memories of his goal at Stamford Bridge earlier this year, but it is very unlikely that he is going to feature significantly in the upcoming campaign.

It spoke volumes that Sean Dyche didn’t turn to the striker during the run-in last season when the Toffees’ were really struggling for a Plan B in place of the hapless Dominic Calvert-Lewin who was plagued by injury problems.

That was an indication of what lies ahead for Simms and whilst another loan may materialise, he definitely needs to play games so a permanent deal would come as no surprise.

Everton will bring in reinforcements upfront which will push the striker further down the pecking order at Goodison.

No bid may have been accepted as of today, but that is a situation that could change very soon, with various ins and outs to be overseen by Dyche in the weeks ahead.

Simms has now enjoyed productive loan spells at Blackpool, Hearts and Sunderland with a very decent goal ratio at all three clubs.
