Sheffield Wednesday hold ‘strong’ interest in Everton striker Ellis Simms

Sheffield Wednesday have joined the race to sign Everton striker Ellis Simms, according to The Northern Echo.

It’s believed the newly-promoted Owls hold a “strong” interest in the 22-year-old forward, who enjoyed an excellent loan spell at Sunderland during the 2022/23 season.

The Black Cats are also hopeful of striking a deal for their former loanee along with Stoke City, who have held talks with the Goodison Park hierarchy.

Everton

Ambitious

This would certainly be an ambitious move from the Owls.

Wednesday have just been promoted from League One and could well be looking to use that momentum to mount another assault on promotion.

If they pulled this move off it would be extremely impressive. Simms has proven himself to be far too good in the second tier and would score bundles of goals for whoever he ended up playing for.

Everton

From Everton’s perspective, it makes sense to move him on during the summer window. The Toffees’ budget is going to be extremely tight and looking to wheel and deal has to be on the cards for Kevin Thelwell and the board.

Sean Dyche needs to be looking to land a proven goalscorer for the upcoming campaign. Far too often we’ve seen Everton light near the top end of the pitch.

One positive from this whole saga is that the number of interested clubs could spark a bidding war for Simms. The 22-year-old’s future is certainly one to keep an eye on heading into the summer.
