Farhad Moshiri risks Everton wrath after latest broken promise to fans – Phil McNulty
Everton owner Farhad Moshiri has convinced chairman Bill Kenwright to stay put and help the club through a “period of transition,” as reported by BBC Sport.
The report (23 June) states that Kenwright will remain in his position despite extensive protests from supporters in recent seasons for his dismissal.
The news comes following Moshiri’s broken promise that an update would be provided on Kenwright’s future within 48 hours – a promise which was made 11 days ago. Phil McNulty believes that this news will just spark more anger among fans.

“If Everton’s statement was intended to calm the mood among discontented fans, early indications suggest it has had the opposite effect,” McNulty wrote via BBC Sport (23 June).
“Kenwright and Moshiri have taken heavy criticism for Everton’s current parlous plight after two seasons of near relegation and being referred to an independent commission by the Premier League for alleged breaches of financial fair play rules.”
Moshiri has joined the board and Kenwright has survived the recent mass exodus of club officials as Everton enters an important period with MSP Sports Capital set to provide an investment which will help with the cost of the new stadium.
Anger
There will be very few Everton fans who will be happy with this news.

Moshiri is playing with fire and he better know what he is doing otherwise he will very likely find himself getting burnt. During the season protests got so intense that board members were recommended to stay away for their own safety and the fact that Moshiri has now joined the board, broken a promise and ignored the fans is as stupid as it is brave.
By keeping Kenwright on, Moshiri runs the risk of those protests now becoming even more intense and you would hope for the club’s sake that he has a plan up his sleeve to get Everton out of this mess.
The ownership of the club is an absolute joke and shambles right now and fans will be desperate to see the back of Moshiri and Kenwright as soon as it is possible. For now, they are clearly stuck with them.
