Sean Dyche to turn back on Ellis Simms as Sunderland make Everton contact

Sean Dyche is likely to allow Ellis Simms to depart Everton and take his search for a new striker elsewhere, according to The Chronicle.

It’s believed Sunderland have “made contact” with the Toffees over a potential move for their former loanee (The Chronicle, 22 June).

Everton have yet to make a decision on the 22-year-old but Dyche is now likely to sanction an exit, with the striker now in the last year of his current contract.

On the cards

Simms’ exit is now looking like more of a formality.

The 22-year-old has shown signs during his brief chances in the first team but he needs to be playing regular football.

Dyche needs a proven Premier League goalscorer and unfortunately, the youngster isn’t the answer. A permanent move to the Stadium of Light would make a lot of sense.

He’s played there before and was loved by the fanbase in the North East. Sunderland are certainly a club on the up and could well provide Simms with an excellent platform to improve his career.

Everton

For Everton, they will be delighted with the amount of interest in the 22-year-old. With a number of Championship sides – including Sheffield Wednesday and Ipswich – taking a look, the prospect of a bidding war has become a genuine possibility.

With funds certainly being tight, this could be an excellent way for Everton to generate some funds during the 2023 summer window with a prolific forward near the top of Dyche’s wishlist.

The days of Neal Maupay and Dominic Cavlert-Lewin being constantly injured need to come to an end.
