Everton transfer overhaul in full flow as Sean Dyche wields axe on Mason Holgate

Sean Dyche has built a reputation on his no-nonsense approach to management throughout his career – and it seems he is happy to continue on his merry way and overhaul his first-team squad at Everton this summer.

After only surviving relegation to the Championship by the skin of their teeth on the final day of the season, the Englishman’s squad is in dire need of change during the summer transfer window.

And after the club refused to trigger Conor Coady’s buy-option in his loan, it seems like defender Mason Holgate is set to follow suit after being told to pack his bags at Goodison Park.

According to reports, the Englishman is in advanced talks to join Sheffield United on loan after Everton told him he was free to leave the club.

The Liverpool Echo claims that the Toffees have told the 26-year-old he can leave on either a loan or permanent deal should an acceptable offer arrive, with talkSPORT reporting the Blades have subsequently made their move.

A separate report by the Liverpool Echo claimed that Everton must sell over the coming weeks if they wish to fund incomings to improve the team, and considering the large number of glaring weaknesses in the first team, reducing the bloated squad is a necessity.

Holgate has become a bit-part player at Everton over the last two seasons, partly due to a rotten injury record but more so poor patches of form, so this loss won’t rock the chip on Merseyside if a transfer is sealed.

However, following the departures of Coady and Yerry Mina, this exit would surely mean that Dyche has to replenish his ranks in the heart of defence.

As a quartet, James Tarkowski, Michael Keane, Ben Godfrey and the returning Jarrad Branthwaite don’t look quite strong enough to compete with the physical demands of the Premier League next season now that Holgate looks destined for Bramall Lane.

One thing is for sure though: Dyche doesn’t look like slowing down in his attempts to move the club away from the clutches of Premier League relegation.

In other Everton news, an FA Cup winning striker is on Sean Dyche’s wishlist for this summer.
