£25m+ now gone at Everton as confirmed June transfer news emerges at Goodison Park

Yerry Mina is set to depart Everton and the news confirms yet another transfer failure at Goodison Park.

According to Sky Sports, the 28-year-old cost the Toffees £27million back in 2018, when he was just a 23-year-old. Considering the price Everton paid and the fact there was a buy-back option for Barcelona, he should have delivered so much more.

In five seasons at Goodison Park, the defender has averaged just under 20 games per campaign – in all competitions.

Just taking into account Premier League fixtures, the Colombian averaged 17 games per season. Considering there are 36 games to fulfil, this is a really poor statistic.

He’s now set to depart in the prime years of his career for nothing. Mina’s time at Goodison Park is just another example of how poor recruitment has been in recent years.

The board cannot repeat this scenario again.

Signing a player for nearly £30million in his younger years and then failing to make a profit when he departs. Realistically, it’s a significant sum down the drain for Farhad Moshiri and company.

Everton’s transfer business is yet to kick into gear. A number of players are currently on holiday and it’s unlikely any deals will occur before one or two exits take place at Goodison Park. Mina and Tom Davies have left the club, but player sales could be required to generate funds moving forward.

Amadou Onana would be the most likely candidate, with the Belgium star the most valuable asset in Dyche’s squad at present.

Smart footballing decisions and a little bit of wheeling and dealing will have to occur this summer.
