Everton and Sheffield United yet to open talks over loan move for Mason Holgate
Everton are not in talks with Sheffield United over a loan move for Mason Holgate currently, according to a report by the Liverpool Echo (27 June).
The young defender made just five Premier League starts last season and has been told he will be allowed to leave should an acceptable offer be made.
A report by talkSPORT (26 June) claimed the Blades were in “advanced talks” over a loan move, but according to a fresh report on Tuesday that is wide of the mark.

“The ECHO understands that Holgate is a player of interest for the newly-promoted Blades and that claims that talks have already commenced over a deal are, at this moment in time, wide of the mark,” they wrote.
Inevitable
Sean Dyche has made it pretty clear that Holgate isn’t part of his plans for the new season in the Premier League, so an exit is surely inevitable.
Yerry Mina and Conor Coady have already been allowed to leave from the defenders that were available to the club last season, but Everton still have options including James Tarkowski, Michael Keane, Ben Godfrey and returning loanee Jarrad Branthwaite.

That leaves Holgate with very little chance of getting extra game time and that means he is likely to be open to an exit too.
Sheffield United would allow him the chance to play regularly under a manager he knows well in Paul Heckingbottom in the Premier League, and a loan would allow Everton the chance to make some cash on him if he plays well next summer.
An exit seems obvious at this point, but with talks yet to get underway the race is still open for more teams to get involved.
In other Everton news, Dyche wants to sign this FA Cup winning striker this summer.
