Everton forced to play waiting game for Willy Gnonto transfer as agent speaks out on Leeds United future

Everton will be forced to play the waiting game in their pursuit of Leeds United winger Willy Gnonto after the player’s agent spoke out on his future this summer.

Gazzetta Dello Sport reported on Tuesday (27 June) that the Toffees are strongly interested in a move for the 19-year-old and want to sign him “immediately”.

However, the agent of Gnonto, Claudio Vigorelli, has spoken out on the future of the winger and when a decision will be made about where he will ply his trade next season.

Speaking to Calciomercato’s TVPlay, Vigorelli said that any decision would have to wait until the Leeds ace had finished playing for Italy at the Under-21 European Championships.

“I say that we are focused on the national team and the European championship,” he said.

“Then we have to talk to Leeds and we’ll see, but I think there will be options.

“The Premier League experience has been fantastic for him and I think he wants to continue in that direction. But right now, the focus is on the national team.”

Gnonto looks like a great option for Sean Dyche and his side to pursue this summer, with the attacker likely to be available on a cheaper deal than first imagined after Leeds United were relegated from the Premier League last season.

The 19-year-old swiftly rose to prominence in West Yorkshire last season despite the club’s wider struggles, registering six goal contributions from 23 Premier League appearances and displaying an attacking verve that was lacking elsewhere at Leeds.

His ability to take defenders on in one on one situations, as well as his trickery and pace down the wing, make Gnonto an extremely tempting player for Everton to swoop in for this summer.

Aside from Demarai Gray, who has recently been linked with a move to the Saudi Pro League [Daily Mail, 26 June], the Toffees’ attack was rather one-dimensional and predictable last season.

Gnonto can bring an X factor to Goodison Park if signed, but the club will have to stay patient if they want to get this one over the line.

In Everton news, Alan Myers has shared a major update on Sean Dyche’s future after a development over his sacking has emerged over the past few days.
