Everton make tentative enquiries into transfer for Swansea City striker Joel Piroe

Everton have made tentative enquiries into the transfer of Swansea City striker Joel Piroe this summer, according to Wales Online.

The 23-year-old has proven himself a prolific frontman since joining the Welsh club, netting 20 goals from 45 appearances last campaign and a further 24 goals in the 2021/22 season.

Piroe, who is currently in a warm-weather training camp in Spain, is “almost certain” to leave the Swans this summer and has already told the club he won’t be signing a new contract to extend his current deal which expires in the summer of 2024.

Wales Online wrote: “Premier League duo Everton and Nottingham Forest have also made tentative enquiries, but are yet to firm up any interest with a serious approach.

“The 23-year-old is open to seeing out the remainder of his contract, but it seems highly unlikely that Swansea will be receptive to the idea of losing their top striker for nothing next summer.”

Everton’s need for fresh options in attack has been well-documented over the last couple of seasons, and Piroe looks like a great name to pursue this summer.

With Ellis Simms looking more and more likely to leave the club alongside Neal Maupay, and Dominic Calvert-Lewin remaining an injury frustration, Sean Dyche will be looking for at least one striker signing in this summer transfer window.

Although the jump up from the Championship to the Premier League has caught many a player out, Piroe looks ready-made for top-flight football.

The Dutchman has banged goals in for fun at Swansea City since joining two years ago and will be of interest to a number of Premier League clubs considering this lights-out form.

The fact Piroe has just one year left on his contract also opens the opportunity for a cut-price deal, with the Welsh side highly unlikely to let him leave for free when his deal expires.

This ticks a lot of boxes for Everton, and they should look to turn their tentative enquiries into an official approach for Piroe’s services.

In Everton news, Alan Myers has shared a major update on Sean Dyche’s future after a development over his sacking has emerged over the past few days.
