Everton can turn attentions to Swansea City striker Joel Piroe after £17m Viktor Gyokeres transfer blow

Although Everton have been dealt a major blow in their pursuit of long-term target Viktor Gyokeres, another option within the Championship has simultaneously emerged in the form of Swansea City forward Joel Piroe.

Record shared on Thursday (29 June) that the Coventry City striker is already “packing his bags” ahead of a £17.2million move to Sporting CP amid interest from a host of English clubs, including Everton.

The Toffees have already had a bid for the 25-year-old Sweden international rejected [O Jogo, 28 June], with a move to the Portuguese giants now “imminent”.

Despite this move for the Championship striker hitting a roadblock, the club could do far worse than looking towards fellow Championship hotshot Piroe.

Wales Online reported on Thursday (29 June) that the Toffees have made tentative enquiries into the transfer of the Swansea striker, but no serious approach had yet been made.

The 23-year-old remains open to seeing out his contract for another year, but the Championship outfit remains unlikely to hold onto him and sell him on a free transfer next summer.

The report states that Piroe is “almost certain” to leave the Welsh club in the current window and he has already expressed that he will not be signing a new contract.

Considering the cut-price deal that could now be on the cards, Everton could do far worse than pursue a deal for the prolific frontman.

Since joining Swansea City two years ago, Piroe has amassed an impressive 44 goals in all competitions, thriving under the guidance of Russell Martin.

However, now that the Englishman has left the club to manage Southampton, the coming weeks could be the perfect time for the Toffees to strike a bargain transfer.

The Dutch youth international seemingly wants a move away from Swansea this summer, and considering the lack of proven goalscorers within the Everton first-team squad, Dyche could do far worse than turning his attentions from Gyokeres to another Championship striker in Piroe.

In other Everton news, the Toffees want to sign a “prized asset” from Leeds United amid a likely Elland Road “exodus” this summer.
