Jarrad Branthwaite set to stay at Everton as transfer update emerges

Jarrad Brantwaite is set to return to Everton this summer after spending last season on loan to PSV as any deal is unlikely, according to the Liverpool Echo.

Branthwaite impressed on loan in the Netherlands this season, playing 36 times in all competitions and winning the Dutch Cup after defeating Ajax on penalties in the final, with the central defender playing the full game. He had previously played just 13 games for Everton.

Despite Everton’s stance, Branthwaite would have no hesitation in going back to Eindhoven on a permanent deal after he’s finished representing England at the U21 European Championship this summer. Everton are reluctant to let him leave, though with any deal now unlikely.

Use him.

Branthwaite was a reliable and solid defender at PSV last season, much more than can be said about some of the current crop at Everton. He missed just five games through injury in the Netherlands, while Everton defenders Michael Keane, Mason Holgate and Yerry Mina missed a combined 31.

This news also comes following the departure of Connor Coady and Mina, with the former returning to his parent club after Everton decided not to make his loan permanent, while the latter was released upon the expiry of his contract at Goodison Park, with the Merseyside club now desperate for reinforcements to their squad.

Branthwaite is the type of player that, if he was Dutch and a permanent member of the PSV squad, the Toffees would be looking at upwards of £15million to bring to the club. His presence as a homegrown talent under Premier League rules adds even more value to his role, and Everton must do all they can to keep him this summer.

It’s time to use him.

In other Everton news, a Saudi twist could present the club with an opportunity to reignite their previous interest.
