Loans necessary

But those young players can definitely benefit more if they are playing regularly in senior football for a club lower down the pyramid, where they can hone their skills and see what it is like to compete at a difficult level.
The loans work out for the players as they get much-needed game time, with their temporary clubs also benefiting as they get to have a Premier League player among their ranks.
The likes of Everton also benefit, and they can check in regularly on the youngster to see how they are getting on away from Goodison Park.
