Everton to sign Ashley Young as Tuesday medical booked – Fabrizio Romano

Ashley Young has accepted a deal to sign for Everton and will have a medical Tuesday, according to an update from Fabrizio Romano.

Sky Sports’ Alan Myers had reported earlier on Monday (10 July) that the signing was expected to be completed within 48 hours, and that looks set to be the case with the physical tests now set.

The 38-year-old former Aston Villa and Manchester United player has rejected offers from at least three different leagues to join the Toffees.

Reporting via Twitter on Monday night (10 July) Romano wrote: “Ashley Young is set to join Everton on a short term deal, here we go! Medical has been booked in the next 24h.”

Imminent

Young is clearly not a star signing but since it is coming up for a year since the Toffees managed to bring anybody in it at least helps fill one of Sean Dyche’s priority positions for this window.

It is encouraging that he has chosen Everton over various other options, and while he is 38 his fitness levels are excellent for a man his age and he still featured 29 times in the Premier League last season.

He obviously isn’t going to be an arrival for the long term at Goodison Park but with Seamus Coleman’s season ended by injury he will provide cover there, and with Dyche apparently harbouring doubts over Nathan Patterson and Vitalii Mykolenko he could get the nod ahead of either.

Everton

After over three weeks of the transfer window with nothing in the way of new arrivals it is at least a starting point for Dyche and Kevin Thelwell in terms of incoming business.

The forward positions are now crying out for work, as a key area has been further weakened by the exit of Ellis Simms.

If hopes that Rodrigo can be snapped up for a small fee from Leeds United are accurate and the Spanish international arrives off the back of the young deal then the club will at last be up and running this summer.

In other Everton news, Dyche wants to raid Manchester United for a “top pro” that Erik ten Hag has already stopped from moving to one club.
