Everton re-open talks with Arnaut Danjuma after Tottenham hijack, Sky Sports pundit in full support of Goodison move
We’re delighted to welcome former Everton striker Kevin Campbell as our exclusive columnist. Each week the former Toffees captain will be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Goodison Park…
Everton signing Arnaut Danjuma on loan this summer could “definitely” work and fans would have no issue about what happened in January says Kevin Campbell.
The Villarreal winger got as far as having a medical at Goodison Park in the winter, before Frank Lampard was sacked and the Dutch international backed out of the move for a Tottenham “hijack”, leaving the club “furious and surprised”, [Fabrizio Romano, 25 January].
He failed to make much of an impact in North London and is now again in talks with the Toffees about a Goodison move at the second time of asking [TEAMtalk, 11 July], which Sky Sports pundit Campbell believes would be a good move for Sean Dyche.

Speaking exclusively to Goodison News Campbell said: “Listen, I don’t think the fans will have a problem with it to be honest.
“At the end of the day the player’s got to do what’s right for him and don’t forget he was negotiating with Lampard.
“Then Lampard got the sack, so if you’re going to the club for somebody and then you find out that they’re not there then the decision is now different.
“That’s what happened and an offer came in. He chose Spurs, no problem. That was a blow to Everton but they’d already sacked the manager when they hadn’t secured the player.
“This is just one of those things with Everton, again, secure the player first, then if you’re going to get rid of the manager make sure he’s secured.
“They jumped the gun.
“I think it can [work]. It would be a loan, that could work, definitely. Decent player.”

Everton can’t afford to be choosers in their current predicament and since there is no “bad blood” between the 26-year-old and the club then they should absolutely do a deal, assuming Dyche thinks Danjuma can contribute next season.
It was a symptom of the chaos that greeted the manager’s arrival on Merseyside that the one signing that looked a sure thing during the winter window went begging, as deadline day ultimately passed without any new arrivals.
Missing out on Rodrigo from Leeds this week had similar shades of that, but with Ashley Young picked up as a free agent Dyche has at least broken his duck in terms of Everton signings, and with Demarai Gray looking likely to leave for decent money Danjuma would represent a low-cost replacement option if an agreement gets over the line this time.
In other Everton news, the Toffees have made an approach to sign a European golden boot winner for a bargain price.
