Everton transfer news: Sky Sports pundit reacts as Romelu Lukaku linked to sensational Goodison return amid Chelsea limbo
We’re delighted to welcome former Everton striker Kevin Campbell as our exclusive columnist. Each week the former Toffees captain will be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Goodison Park…
Kevin Campbell has completely dismissed the chances of Everton stepping in to offer Romelu Lukaku a route out of his Chelsea stand-off during the transfer window.
The one-time Toffees star appears to have no chance of a return to Stamford Bridge after his loan at Inter and with Sean Dyche in desperate need of a new striker Chris Sutton said on BBC 5 Live’s 606 on 25 June that the manager should “go and get Lukaku. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again”.
But while the £97.5million man [Sky Sports] continues to be stuck in transfer limbo the chances of him making a sensational return to Merseyside have been rated as somewhere between slim and none by Campbell.

The former Toffees captain, and Sky Sports pundit, was emphatic in reaction to the idea, exclusively telling Goodison News: “No. Not happening.
“Listen, it’s all nice talk but it’s not happening.
“No chance.”

If Everton are struggling to pick up a striker in the transfer window when they are known to like free agents like Moussa Dembele and cut-price bargains like Rodrigo from Leeds United, the idea that they could be a viable option for Lukaku when Chelsea are intent on making a proportion of their huge outlay back is fanciful.
In a footballing sense it would be perfect, as the Belgian international was a great success during his four seasons with the club, scoring 87 goals and providing 29 assists in 166 appearances, still the most he’s made for any one club in his money-spinning career.
Dyche loves a big man up front and Dwight McNeil would surely love to swing crosses in for him, but with Everton struggling financially and coming off the back of two-straight relegation battles it simply isn’t happening, and Sutton surely knows that too.
In other Everton news: After the week’s emotional developments around one Toffees ace Martin Samuel has suggested the club “may have a new signing” now as a result.
