Everton reach ‘verbal agreement’ with Arnaut Danjuma after medical update

Everton have a “verbal agreement” in place with Arnaut Danjuma ahead of his proposed move from Villarreal, according to the Athletic.

Patrick Boyland wrote on the website on Thursday (20 July) that the move is not yet completed but is likely to be a loan deal for the Nigerian winger.

Sky Sports journalist Alan Myers reported that the 26-year-old is due to have a medical and that a £3.5million loan fee has been agreed.

Danjuma was heavily linked with a temporary switch to Goodison Park in January before he ultimately moved to Tottenham instead.

However, first-team opportunities proved limited and he is set to bolster Sean Dyche’s forward ranks for the coming season.

Forgive and forget

If you are an Everton fan it is easy to see why there is more than an element of scepticism about this deal for Danjuma.

Reports state Danjuma had spent time at Everton’s training ground in January before reneging on the move and heading to London with Spurs instead, where he left little more than a groove in the seats in the substitutes area.

Football fandom is, as you may have noticed, really rather tribal and such actions are never going to sit well with supporters.

But Everton are still working on a limited budget this window at a time where they really need to add life to an attack that wilted so badly again last season.

In Danjuma they are getting a relatively cheap option and one who should add pace, directness and an eye for goal to the forward line.

It is not always easy, but this really is a case of forgive and forget, Danjuma could be a really shrewd addition.

In other Everton news, the agent of Willy Gnonto was reportedly in the UK to complete a deal to take him to Goodison Park.
