Everton ‘Reluctantly’ open to selling Amadou Onana to fund new striker signing

Everton are open to selling Amadou Onana this summer to fund Sean Dyche’s pursuit of a new striker, according to TEAMtalk.

Writing on their website (19 July), the Toffees are said to have made the decision to sell the Belgium international “reluctantly” with the manager aware that funds are tight at Goodison Park this summer.

And with Onana among the club’s most valuable assets, a decision has been made that they are open to his exit should an acceptable offer be made by an interested party.

“Everton are reluctantly open to selling midfielder Amadou Onana to boost their own transfer kitty, TEAMtalk understands,” they wrote.

“Everton boss Sean Dyche knows he will need to wheel and deal this summer if he is to add to his squad, with the Toffees boss desperate to add to his side’s attacking options up front.

“Dyche is aware he may have to sell someone in order to make more signings this summer and Onana is among the club’s most valuable assets.”

Awful

There is no way that Everton can expect to keep beating relegation if they’re constantly being forced into selling their best players year after year.

First it was Richarlison in a deal that many expected because he had outgrown a relegation battle, and then regardless of what you think of him the sale of Anthony Gordon to Newcastle was a major blow to the club.

Now Everton are likely to continue selling their future talents because Onana is still only 21 and is clearly going to only get better from this point after an impressive first campaign in England.

Dyche needs money to bolster the squad, but it’s not bolstering if top players are being sold to bring others in because we lose balance and have to take steps backwards to go forwards.

The best thing the club can do is keep the talent together and add to it, while getting rid of some of the deadwood to boost funds and hopefully we can move away from being a fixture at the bottom of the table.
