Everton miss out on Moussa Dembele and El Bilal Toure, now want to sign Kelechi Iheanacho from Leicester City

Everton have made Kelechi Iheanacho a “priority” target for the summer after missing out on the signings of Moussa Dembele and El Bilal Toure, according to Ignazio Genuardi.

Writing on his personal Twitter account (27 July), the former editor of F365 France reports that the Toffees have missed out on the signings of two of Sean Dyche’s prime targets after Dembele moved to Saudi Arabia’s Al Ettifaq, while Toure is set to sign for Atalanta.

That has seen the club move on to a pursuit of FA Cup winner Iheanacho instead, who is expected to leave Leicester following their relegation to the Championship.

“After missing M.Dembele and EB Toure, Everton is active on the file of the Nigerian striker Iheanacho (Leicester). This is one of the new priorities,” he wrote.

Interesting

There have been a lot of mentions of Iheanacho as a potential signing at Goodison Park this summer, and it could now be something that happens.

Previously the Nigeria international was expected to join Nottingham Forest, but after they completed a deal for Anthony Elanga it may not be so high up on their priorities anymore.

Everton

Dyche needs a strong target man type striker to play the way he wants, and stylistically Iheanacho fits the bill. He is very similar to Dominic Calvert-Lewin and while not prolific, his ability to bring others into play and hold up the ball could be a big use to this Everton side.

He’s unlikely to be too expensive and his wages surely wouldn’t pose an issue either, so it’s just about convincing him that this is the place to be and beating out any other competition.

We need a striker and it’s good to see the club moving quickly in the market after disappointment, but it raises concerns about whether they can get deals over the line.
