Journalist makes ‘hard to say’ judgement on Tom Cannon as Sunderland still in for Everton striker
It is “hard to say” who will sign Tom Cannon from Everton this summer, according to newspaper journalist Alan Nixon.
Answering questions via his personal Twitter account on Wednesday (26 July), Nixon noted how Sunderland remain in contention for his signature.
The 20-year-old striker spent the second half of last season on loan at Preston North End, where he scored eight goals in 21 appearances.

When asked by if anyone is close to signing Cannon yet on Twitter, Nixon replied: “All the clubs making their calls… but it will need Everton to sign people first… although that is their plan.”
The journalist was then asked who is the most likely to sign the player, replying: “Hard to say.”
Nixon was also questioned if Sunderland are still in the running to sign Cannon, and he responded: “Yes.”

Wanted man
It’s clear that young striker Cannon is a wanted man this summer, with plenty of clubs no doubt in for the 20-year-old following his top displays while on loan in the Championship last season.
That is more than likely where he will end up again next season, but it remains to be seen which second division club will win the race for his signature.
Everton perhaps have long-term plans for the striker, but it seems that he would be surplus to requirements under Sean Dyche this season.
That is not to say he doesn’t have an important role under the boss in years to come, with another loan move likely for the near future.
The forward has a very bright future ahead of him, both at club and international level, having shone for the Republic of Ireland youth teams.
It is clear, though, that the Toffees need to make more signings in the final third before letting their young star leave.
